Apart from providing low-cost high quality clothes and shoes for low income earners the DAPP second hand Clothes and Shoes enterprise has provided employment opportunities to more than 300 staff.

And Sara Chisenge is one of these employees. She is the Manager at the newly opened Garden Township DAPP Clothes and Shoes Shop in Lusaka. Sara is so much attached to her work. Everything she touches, seems to turn golden. Apart from her commitment to serve the people through this enterprise, the work on the other hand has turned her life around.

“Since I started working in DAPP I have been helped so much. Looking at my background this job has helped me manage taking my children to school and even sustaining my needs”, Sara recalls.

She joined DAPP as a casual worker in 2009 in Chongwe. In 2010 she was formally employed and sent to Zimbabwe to study at the DAPP Frontline Institute in 2011 upto 2012. On her return from Zimbabwe, Sara rose to the position of Acting Manager at the DAPP Shop in Chongwe before she was transferred to Mongu as Assistant Manager in 2013, with a promotion lifting her to Shop Manager the following year.

But what does she do to make failing sales go up like what happened at the Mongu Shop?

“Commitment, patience and understanding your customers’ needs. We listen to our customers’ complaints and what they want to see. And from there we try to change things according to their needs. When they see this, they come and buy because we treat them well”, Sara explained.
