Goal 3

The Global Fund has given Zambia a USD 270 million grant towards the fight for HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, for the period 2018 to 2020. The funds have been disbursed to the country’s two principal recipients, the Ministry of Health and the Churches Health Association of Zambia (CHAZ).

The grant will be utilised to contribute towards averting 80, 000 new HIV infections and 43, 000 AIDS-related deaths over the stated period. It will further seek to reduce the number of TB deaths in the population by 40%.

CHAZ has sub-granted DAPP Zambia to start implementing the Project in 12 districts in Copperbelt and Central Provinces through sub granting to smaller CBOs.

The project will mobilise the communities to take action to stop new HIV and TB infections through community dialogue meetings and through the engagement of Champions – which are volunteers that will be trained to advocate for behavior change especially among the youth. The project will further train and work with peer educators in schools, in out of school youth clubs and in Support Groups for People living with HIV. The project will further work in close cooperation with the health facilities and work with Community Health Workers (CHWs)

Activities will include HIV testing campaigns, promotion of medical male circumcision and scale up condom distribution.

The project will operate in Ndola, Masaiti, Mpongwe, Mufulila, Chililabombwe, Lufwanyama on the Copperbelt Province as well as Mkushi, Serenje and Kapiri Mposhi, Shibuyunji, Chibombo and Mumbwa in Central Province.
