DAPP Zambia joined other participants at โThe Union World Conference on Lung Health 2024โ in calling for increased global funding against Tuberculosis (TB) and other respiratory diseases. The conference, which took place from November 12 to 16, 2024, in Bali, Indonesia, was themed โTransforming Evidence into Action."
TB remains the worldโs deadliest infectious disease, killing more than 1.3 million people each year, including 214,000 children, hence the conference is petitioning the Global Fund Board and Secretariat to increase funding towards TB response from 18% to 33%.
At the conference, DAPP Senior Partnership Director, Anne Dorte Hoejrup presented an oral abstract titled: ๐ง๐ต๐ฒ ๐๐ณ๐ณ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐๐ฒ๐ป๐ฒ๐๐ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐๐๐ฃ๐ฃ ๐๐ฝ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ต ๐ถ๐ป ๐ง๐ ๐๐ฎ๐๐ฒ ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ฑ๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐๐บ๐ผ๐ป๐ด ๐๐ต๐ถ๐น๐ฑ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ป ๐ถ๐ป ๐๐๐๐ฎ๐ธ๐ฎ to share experiences in detecting, treating, and managing TB in children.
DAPP Zambia has always integrated TB interventions into its fight against HIV. In 2023, DAPPโs Total Control of the HIV/TB Epidemics, TCE project linked over 131,000 people living with HIV to TB prevention Therapy, (TPT).
This is in addition to activities aimed at improving TB services towards vulnerable populations, including children and inmates in correctional facilities using strategies that emphasize early detection and comprehensive management strategies.
The conference has brought together lung health experts, researchers, health professionals, civil society, affected communities, and government officials from around the world to share knowledge and ideas for a healthier world free from Tuberculosis and lung diseases.
